I have been "chained" to the laundry room but my mojo went missing so all I've been doing is laundry!

Valentine's Day upcoming has given me the incentive to break free! The Clean and Simple model (FTL176) offered me an "easy" jump start to get back on the drawing board. The sketch requires four images -- which is a challenge in itself. I loved adding the background paper to the inside too.

The heart stamps are all PSX, word stamp

Ready for a bedtime story

I guess I still remember how to sew -- pajamas, at least. Here Lucky Lucy and her new sister (who arrived under the tree on Christmas day -- I believe she was American Girl of the Year for 2011) are set for a bedtime story in their stylish new pjs. The "crocs" were a great find on Amazon.com!

These may look simple -- but the doing was not so much -- requiring a lot of fussy finishing -- but makes me all the more pleased. Now, I am ready for my bedtime story --

Lucky Lucy

I've shown a paucity of paper crafting since my DH gifted me with "Bernie" my beautiful Bernina sewing machine, as now along with my paper stash, resides an equally daunting stash of fabrics, leather, bindings, laces, elastics, needles, threads, buttons, and more....and my darling granddaughter with two American Girl Dolls.

Meet Lucy

(short for Luciana) wearing a period costume fashioned in pink -- my granddaughter's favorite color.

The "jacket" can be removed to offer a more modern looking dress. This was a bit more challenging than sewing for a real person because of the small size -- (though not as small as those Barbie outfits I used to make for 2 darling daughters) -- but a delight in every way to present it to Lucy to wear on Christmas day and to see how much she loves her new dress. Her "mother" aka, my granddaughter was all smiles too! So, I am a Lucky Lucy too!

Stepping up to the Plate

While I am still just walking by my wall of rubber, my laundry still gets done in between the time I spend playing with my new Bernina sewing machine. I am so very lucky to not only have the time to sew now that I am retired, but to also receive great new ideas and instructions from my local Bernina store "Sew From The Heart" -- and that is exactly what I am trying to do -- Sew from the heart. Here's my "latest" -- a Christmas tree napkin" created on my Bernina 830 (fondly named "Bernie"). I'll be hitting the rubber soon though with the approaching holidays ---but whether I am stamping or sewing, it is always from the heart.

Monkey "See"

My sock monkey is slowly reaching maturity; a heart has been pinned to her chest and for eyes, a "perfect" set of buttons has been selected from Granny's button box. So now that she can see, she is searching the studio for embroidery floss to create a mouth so she can speak.

In the meantime, I'll be in the laundry room pretending to do the wash while I am searching for my stamping supplies. It is past time to think about making Christmas cards! I'll be back soon....

Granny's Button Box

When my husband and I married (almost 51 years ag0) one of the things that my dear MIL gave me was a "starter" button box. She said that it was a tradition to pass down buttons from the family to newly weds. I still have a lot of those same buttons and I have felt compelled to add to the collection over the years. My early memories of family button boxes (often round tin containers) were the searches through them to replace a missing button or to find a complete set for a new garment. There were other reasons to look in the button box -- to make spinning toys, fancy necklaces and to play the game "Button, button, who's got the button?"

Today I played "button, button, who's got the button?" as I went searching in my button box to find a perfect set of eyes for my new sock monkey. She will arrive on my blog soon.

Springtime

Dear friends -- thanks for not giving up on me! I
Can't believe how spring has sprung into the warm days of June here in Phoenix. We are about to complete our tomato harvest and I wish I could share some of the lucisouness with you. I had fun making this card with a Penny Black "leftover" - an embossibility, sizzix, paper rickrack, and paper from Stash. I have high hopes of getting back to my regular postings and regular challenges soon. More to come -- but right now I am basking in the sun and playing on the waters of Lake Powell!

T Bear Spring

I have just returned from a fun-filled "girls' week" in Las Vegas where we attended the Bead and Glass Expo. So now that I am back home, I'm doing "double duty" in the laundry room. Washing and playing at the same time. With some Sizzix die cuts, an embossability, a cuttlebug embossing folder, and bits of paper this was assembled before I could load my first batch of clothes in the dryer.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

While I am "green" thinking, I got out Sizzix dies to create this simple and quick card. The frog's chest is bleached so a little hint of pink could be added, and then he was run through the cuttlebug with the dots embossing folder for a textured skin. The Lily pads and background are also cuttlebug embossed and some of the items are raised with pop dots. But the most fun of all was to make his tongue out of a rubber band -- look out all you flies out there.

Other stuff: watercolor pencils, Pilot Gold marker, Tim Holtz distressed ink, (eyes: super adhesive tape, mystic fire embossing powder).

This week in honor of St. Patrick's Day, the Penny Black Saturday Challenge is to create in green. What could be easier when you choose to stamp a Penny Black frog! For more information on this challenge go take a look at the DT creations. I treasure every moment I am able to sit with a book and so does this darling little frog. His book is raised with pop dots for dimension. Other moments I treasure are when I have time in my studio and when I visit my blog friends to view all their beautiful creations.

A New Baby (Stamper)

We have a new "baby stamper" in the family! Last week-end, our younger daughter accompanied me to the Mesa Spring Fling where like-minded individuals gather to see all the new products offered by some of my favorite rubber stamp companies. I think she may have been encouraged to come with me by her father thinking that I wouldn't spend the entire day there. As it turned out, however, we now have another stamper in the family. We walked around all the booths more than twice, looked and touched (and purchased) lots of stuff! Here is a card she created at one of the make and takes. Simple and sweet -- Happy Spring!

Happy Belated Birthday to my AZSIS, Mary

The Use It Tuesday challenge recently issued the latest challenge (#3) to use one of two sketches created by Sami – one for cards and one for scrapbook layouts ---so as stated in the challenge – “. . .no excuses to not use your stash.” And using your stash is what this challenge spot is all about. Sami and Siobhan know that we all like to buy crafty things – and they also know that it is inherent in the buyers of such things to stash and save and not use.

The sketch I chose to use is this one:

The cat in pjs (Uptown Rubber Stamps) is just one of I won’t tell you how many stamps in my studio that have yet to be inked. But every 2nd and 4th Tuesday (for Use It Tuesday), I shall try to ink another one!

Mikey Likes These

My granddaughter has a visitor at her house this week: Mikey.

Mikey is her class teddy bear who visits each student for one week during the school year. During his stay, the host family for Mikey takes pictures to log his adventures to share with the class. Each student then gets a copy of the photos and maintains a journal of Mikey's travels.

This week, Mikey spent time with us helping to create his favorite kind of cards - Teddy Bear Cards. Here are a few of "our" creations.

Mikey likes these -- they are all variations of the Teddy Bear Sizzix die - layered and mounted with pop dots, cuttlebug embossing folder, Martha Stewart border punch, and Shayna's heart punch.

Shayna and Mikey also made 22 boys and girls from Sizzix - complete with clothing and bright colored hair for "wild hair day" at school.

Box of Cards

My dh and I play so much Gin Rummy that I've got a lot of old cards to play with so I am always looking for ways to reuse or repurpose them. I learned how to construct this box of cards from Origami Boxes by Florence Temko. It is crafted of 21 cards and requires no gluing. Prior to assembly, the cards were further distressed and inked. Box is decorated with foam stickers and ribbon trim; the top is decorated with a paper accordian medallion and a wooden bead. I learned how to make the medallions last summer -- you can see other uses and instructions contained within this post. I also used them in another card trick: Casino Royale - link below.

It wasn't until I saw Sibohan's new blog challenge spot that I realized how long it has been since I've done anything serious in my studio. The new challenge spot that she and her co-founder, Sami, have designed is called "Use It Tuesday" and it's intention is to target those crafty supply hoarders. Their challenge is to "dig into your scrappy stash and play along." Well, that's where I become embarrassed -- as I am one of the best hoarders around and lately I've been doing more hoarding than creating. Snowflake Kisses

It is a rarity for two of my favorite challenge spots to offer up a challenge that I can put into one card. This week it happened! Stampin' Sisters in Christ asks for weather and Penny Black says "Let it Snow" -- and soon it will -- or already has in some places! (awesome DT cards here and here.) Here in the Arizona desert all we can do is dream about snow so little Hedgie is in a snow globe. The snow globe (stamp by Embossing Arts) is stamped on acetate and the contents are raised for dimension.

Rain, shine, or snow, I hope your day is filled with winter wishes and snowflake kisses.

Pieced Bounty

Operation Write Home Mid-Week Throwdown: paper piecing. Visit OWH for details on how you can share your beautiful cards with our folks in the service. When I chose this image, I didn't consider all the little bits and pieces -- I think this will be a one-of-a-kind! When all those little bits were attached, I double embossed the image with clear embossing power -- it really brought out the brilliance of the colors, sealed all the bits, and gave it a more dimensional appearance. The frame is on foam mounts for more dimension.

Got Pumpkins? -- Make Pie!

Halloween may be over -- but it's still pumpkin "season" and this happy Gruffie knows just what to do -- enjoy pumpkin pie. Many of you will recognize this image as the Gruffie who is leaned up against a pile of pizza boxes eating a piece of pizza. The current House Mouse challenge is to make a Halloween card or use Halloween colors so I did both! Be sure to pop by the challenge blog spot to view some amazing and Spooktacular design team cards. Gruffie is dry embossed on the back and affixed with foam mounts for a full tummy!

Stuff I used: The Jack O'lantern is a stamp by Anita's, swirls and little pumpkins are Sizzix, copper glitter by Duncan. Other things: cuttlebug embossing folder, foam mounts, $ store flower, pumpkin seeds and papers from Stash.

Celebrate

Penny Black's challenge is to use a triangle or zig-zag this week. I am celebrating today by inking this Penny Black stamp (dry embossed and foam mounted for dimension) for the first time. The tree (the qualifying triangle) is a Sizzix die cut and Cuttlebugged (is that a word?) The background (snow) is also Cuttlebugged (yup it's a word).

This card (top fold 41/4 x 5 1/2) is sort of an easel card to allow for the tall tree adorned with pearls from stash. The easel stopper and other adornments are foam mounted snowflake sequins also from stash. Stash is the biggest store in my town! The stars are twinkled with Art Institute Glitter and a bit of teenie tinsel stars. You can celebrate too by inking a brand new stamp today! Thanks for looking.

Danger

My grandson is growing up (13 already and is as tall as I am) and I know that he won't be "scared" for not one second with this card -- but I do hope he enjoys it! This was inspired by GinaK's latest StampTV tutorial on making a gatefold with a twist. The twist being that there are two outer components --the skull image attached to one side; danger, attached only to the other side allowing the card to open.

The best fun was creating the inside. The Mummy is attached by a black thread at just the point that will allow him to "spring" from his tomb when the card is opened! There's no danger in having fun!

Pink Ribbon

To relaunch my blog after a short hiatus, Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge this week was a good place to start. The challenge is to create a "mostly pink" card that also sports a pink ribbon -- this is in honor and prayer for those battling cancer. A gatefold was my choice for this and I am making one for each of my friends who are cancer survivors. Thanks "Sisters" for re-inspiring me.

I'm swinging back into action. My dh and I have just returned from a great trip to Costa Rica. We saw an amazing array of flora and fauna and had a wonderful time walking and "swinging" in the rainforests. House Mouse in and of itself is as much an addiction as stamping. This little guy (Mudpie) was still on my stamping table from a previous House Mouse challenge I called "Sweet Dreams" and he found his way into this colander of fresh fruit - still dreaming away -- but this time counting his blessings. He's colored with watercolor pencils and the grapes are enhanced with crystal lacquer and foam mounted for dimension. All the fruit and colander are sizzix die cuts -- the pear was cut from some tea stained paper I had made for another project. Lace edging by Fiskars border punch. Phrase from Stampendous. Leaves of Fall

I am counting my blessing on these leafs while I am away from my stamping studio. The leaves are sizzix die cut, stamped on and cuttlebug embossed and are attached by the stems only so that they can be moved about to read all those uplifting and encouraging words. Word stamps from PSX, Stampendous, etc. Underlying frame stamped with Too Much Fun Leaf background stamp. Simple but fun to receive yes?

I enjoyed making this Iris fold project by recycling business envelopes. The strings are gold cord and the tuning pegs (or whatever they are called) are glitter glue. Corner punched layers on an All Night Media stamped background. Another iris fold project can be found here.

M&M's Card Bounty

I love my cousin Marilynn -- she was born just three months after I was and I enjoy repeating the story my mother used to tell that she and her sister, Stella (Marilynn's Mom), had both chosen the name of Martha as their mother's namesake if they were to have a baby girl. Well I came first so I got the name Martha and over the years I have always teased Marilynn that I have her name -- but in fact, she has mine (as a middle name). We have been very close and I now refer to her as my AZ SiS as she now lives in Arizona along with me. A year or so ago, she came to my house for a visit and I showed her my papercrafting studio -- the rest is history -- she is totally addicted! I recently traveled to her city to spend several days so we could play -- and we made 47 cards and still had a lot of time to visit, shop, and share ideas.

Here is one of my favorites from her designs. We made lots of these flowers using nestabilities.

This Little Light of Mine....

"This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine...." This is a happy song from childhood and Stampin' Sisters verse for inspiration to the challenge this week has brought back the memory. The verse is Luke 8:16 "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light." Dt

member Peggy Sue's challenge is to make a votive holder, or a card or project with a candle on it. I was pointed to a tutorial for a luminaria by Beate when I visited another DT member, Chris. Make your own light and share your creation with us! I plan to make many little lights with the gold pansies and let them shine at our anniversary party. Gold - yup! Pure Gold! It's our 50th this year.

Casino Royale

I learned how to make paper medallions last week for the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge and it was so much fun that I made more than I needed. This week's movie "Casino Royale" (challenge 89) was a perfect follow up as I began to see poker chips in those medallions. The challenge, however is to use a silhouette. I've created my dapper 007 silhouette (Sean Connery in my mind's eye) from a Stamps Happen image of Fred Astaire! He is reveling in his Royal Flush which is indeed a lucky draw from my old gin deck. The edges of the poker chips were touched with Top Boss and dusted with JudiKins Black Diamonds ep. Thanks Cinema Saturday for another great challenge and a reminder of those great 007 flicks!

Double Fun

Teddy Stampers' Challenge: my favorite kind of challenge -- create whatever you wish -- but you get double credit for doing "doubles" or adding the recipe of twos. I mention here in case there are readers only to this post, that I am on vacation and therefore have limited supplies to work with but I was still able to go down for double! My Mr. Teddy Fisherman was stamped twice and overlayed for dimension - there are two bees in the picture, two fish, two ribbons, and two words in the phrase. Now that's double talk!

Best Buddies

I am away from my studio and I am working out of my suitcase but was delighted to find that I had the tools for a new technique as a challenge from Cinema Saturday. The movie: "Best in Show" ; the technique: paper accordian medallions. (There are links for tutorials on the challenge posting or go here.) My answer to the challenge: these little dogs with their jeweled collars are best buddies and just for fun, can be removed from their basket. I didn't have any blue paper to make a first prize rosette for these "Best in Show" dogs, so I gave them their "blue ribbon" on the basket handle and made the polka flowers for them to gaze upon while they reside in their basket. Best buddies -- Best in Show!

Res-Q-Challenge54 asks for red and metal and I just happened to have what I needed in my suitcase to assemble exactly what is called for. I believe the animal is from a Stampin Up retired set -- the metal is -- you guessed it --it is a soda pop tab with a sticker and red fibers added! Something built with a set of plans, this is what the DT hostess, Grace, wants to see at Stampin' Sisters in Christ this week (Challenge #48). She draws her inspiration from Psalm 127:1a . "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" I am away on vacation and had no idea what the challenge was going to be but I don't go anywhere without a "few" of my favorite things so I was able to find something in my "suitcase" to play along. This card not only fits the "built with plans" but will certainly bring some nostalgia with it (it certainly does that for me). I love it when a plan comes together!

Stuff I used: Stamp by Mostly Animals, "doodads" by Sizzix. I begged my DH to take me to a Michaels so I could add the little stars and gems. Isn't he a gem?

You are a Friend -- Clean and Simple!

Clean and Simple -- I am away from my studio, but I never travel without a few boxes of what I call "table scraps" (stamped images, punchies, paper cuts, panels etc) and tools, and coloring devices to see what I can conjure up. And, of course, my computer always comes along too so when I saw the latest Clean and Simple Challenge, I rummaged around to find the elements to make this card. I have followed the challenge size card -- (I made it a top fold) and I love it and plan to make more from this great sketch. The hardest part of being away from the studio is thinking about all the glitter and bling I have there -- but keeping it Clean and Simple is (as another internet Martha would say) "a good thing!"

Find Peace

What image for you might symbolize peace or rest? That is the challenge proposed by Miesje, guest designer for Stampin' Sisters in Christ this week.

To me any outdoor quietness brings peace to me and brings me rest and a feeling of calm. The card I have created, and the Bible verse that inspired the challenge both bring that to me: Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." Yup! Who wouldn't be crazy for ice cream? --- Even Penny Black's frog knows the answer for a hot summer day! C.R.A.F.T challenge knows it is the answer for a hot summer day too -- that's their challenge. The best things about making the little ice cream cone with a sizzix die is that it didn't melt and it didn't put any weight on me! The "Crazy 4 you" is a sizzlet die cut. I'm crazy 4 your comments. Have an ice cream kind of day!

Little Boy Blue

The Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge is to produce a creation in the color blue and/or red. It is very plain to see my choice as everything is pretty much blue -- with four different pattern papers stitched together. The blue flowers are dry embossed for dimension and have liquid applique centers. The charming little boy colored with prismas, is peering with a toothless grin from out of a sizzix frame. I didn't want to make this one girly, girly so bugs are added -- ' cause boys like bugs right? Green, Purple, and Gems. What could be a more fun challenge? This is C.R.A.F.T.'s request this week -- great colors and who doesn't like gems? It was also suggested to consider a medieval theme and I think the image fits for that too. Several layers are attached with pop dots for more well, "pop" -- the gold corner swirls are by Sizzix. My son, the artist, approves this post -- green, purple and gems too! Happy Birthday, Ryan!

I've been watching the Teddy Bear Stampers for awhile and looking at all my lovely teddy bears sitting on my shelf begging to be inked. The first challenge card I made was for the Summer Bear challenge -- 'cept I missed the deadline - so this time I am posting earlier! This challenge card is for Love My Teddy -- and you can see that not only do I love my teddy, but he loves me!

The Wired Angel's inspired flower idea makes a great stopper for this easel card. Go have a look at her tutorial. And, if you visit Crafty Ann's, she has shape easel templates to download as well as some great examples of easel cards. In addition, Crafty Ann's challenge this week is to make an easel card -- so I've finally made a card that fits more than one challenge! The teddy bear was colored with prismas and OMS, hearts are embossed. Thanks for your comments -- they are always so uplifting and make everything bearable!

Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge inspired by Isaiah 53:5 is to use stripes and it couldn't have come at a more perfect time with America's birthday just around the corner -- since our flag has stripes! "Patriotic Emily" is a charming stamp from Embossing Arts that I always delight in coloring and sparkling. The background paper with more stripes than Emily's apron, is from "the other Martha" on the internet. Funny thing about that -- serendipity for sure: I had printed it out to make a fan for my granddaughter and it was just sitting on my work table when this challenge was presented. The rest, as they say, "is history." Having just completed my patchwork card, where I dry embossed the pieces, I embossed Emily's dress for more "poof" and dimension -- all attached with pop dots. Nuff said -- hope you have a sparkle kind of day!

Quilting has always traditionally been a craft for using up scraps of cloth. My wonderful MIL ("Granny") was a master of creating beautiful quilts from leftover pieces of cloth. I could look at one of her quilts and be reminded of the many beautiful dresses she had sewn for my daughters and nieces. Penny Black's challenge this week calls for patch work and so I made one of "Granny's Quilts" ("hand stitched") for my sweet little PB kitty. The squares are dry embossed so they are puffy and fluffy and just right for a nap. Ahh, I think a nap is a good idea -- see you all later!

On the Road

The Penny Black challenge this week is "Vacation -- or Holiday." This lovely Holstein gal is taking her favorite chick friends on a road trip and although they are happily trodding down the road, they haven't decided which sign to follow for their vacation from the farm. I think I would choose the mountains since it was 110 degrees where I live today. Some details: image colored with water color pencils mounted on a red panel with embossed metal copper tape -- background is an "aged" cut from a map. A bit of pop dot mounting (cow's head and sign post) added for extra dimension. I am anxious to get on the road to blogland to see wonderful new creations you've made -- leave me a comment so I can return your visit.

A Cameo Appearance

What a great sketch by Eiglas for the C.R.A.F.T. cha lle nge this week. The sketch reminded me of a cameo so that

was my inspiration. The DCWV paper helps with a victorian kind of look. And I guess you could say that I like gold! -- gold flourishes, medallions and such to follow the sketch. For the label or tag element of the sketch, I tried many different labels and bits of lace but nothing seemed to fit for the period look I was trying to achieve -- so there sits a little dimensional butterfly for that element. Just words? Stampin' Sisters In Christ by DT member, Candace, presents a scripture: Psalm 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Her challenge is to use only words -- no image in a creation this week. Because the verse I used was to dominate the card, I decided to make a tent card to draw extra focus. The design paper is from a

pad (Two Scoops) I cut into for the first time sent to me by Kelly at KL StampinNscrappin (random prize draw at a House Mouse challenge). Kelly has a new challenge every Saturday and among her DT tutorials is one for a tent card.

Another great Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge with Kathy Winter's scripture selection Genesis 1:26 And God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." Kathy's challenge? Create a project that has some kind of animal on it; i.e., a fish, bird, land mammal, or a creeping bug. "Creeping bug?" One of the best parts of the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge is the weekly Bible verse choice and the inspirational commentary included by the design team member presenting the challenge. This was a great challenge and an opportunity for me to commemorate once again the iconic famous Kiss in Times Square which appeared on the cover of Life Magazine. Visit Stampin' Sisters in Christ to see what the DT has done with this week's challenge scripture --John 4:23 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him." This challenge and scripture presented by the DT Lovely Linda to create in shades of brown, blue, and white was the inspiration for this card. This is a favorite image by Magenta stamped in blue on white cardstock and set upon a blue background stamped in blue with Stampendous texture. All this assembled atop brown patterned paper and a Martha Stewart punched border with a new favorite base card by curious metallics (Cappuccino) brings forth "The Lord is my strength and my song, . . ." Isaiah 12:2 (Holly Pond Hill - Uptown Rubber stamps). The bird chorus is chirping to my delight as my mojo has returned -- "The Lord is my strength and my song, . . ."

Soot can be Beautiful

How do I explain my absence? I've been in the laundry room actually doing laundry -- LOL. This black and white card is from my technique archives when I was in the early stages of experimentation. The film strip background was perfect to showcase the images from the "black and white" era. Most of you probably won't recognize any of these "funny faces."

The technique is to lay enough soot on a piece of glossy card stock to make a "film" to stamp the image into. Gina K recently produced a tutorial with great detailing of this technique. Soot can be beautiful -- and Gina K can show you how!!

I've lost track of the stamp maker info for these -- they are on plastic pegs. If anyone recognizes them, please let me know. Either way, please take time to leave a comment so I know you were here -- and many thanks for your visit!

I always enjoy the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge and I have missed a couple of weeks so I am doing "make-up" by creating a second card for this week's challenge. The challenge details are here along with my first post. This card a product of some of the pieces I couldn't get on to my first card (below). From the beginning, I had wanted to use the dove as an important image for Peace and so when I created this second larger card, I was able to do just that. The Dove is a Sizzix die cut, tolled, and overlayed with another die cut (embossed). MS border punch and some more of my new favorite flowers (Primas) from my blogging friend Sue. The Challenge: Make a card/layout/project using a peaceful image or a verse about peace. When I think of peace, I think of God and the DeNami stamp: Psalm 46:10 seemed just right for the centerpiece of this card. "Be still and know that I am God." (Now that is peace that passeth all understanding.) I was delighted to have just received in the mail some beautifully frosted prima flowers from my blogging friend Sue's blog candy to complete this card. Table Scraps

Here's a little exercise when you just have a few minutes -- I did these while doing the laundry (well, sort of doing the laundry). The benefits are two-fold: easy little cards and your work table gets cleared off. Challenge yourself to use those little scraps, bits and pieces and "rejected" cut outs, punch outs and images leftover on your work table for quickies. You'll be surprised, what you can do with just what's on the table!

In this case, the heart "stems" were left over from a die-cut, and the hearts punch from scraps on the table.

Added: Cuttlebug panel, stamping on stems from Embossing Arts.

P.S. I added a wire spiral to dangle from the top of the heart and sent it on its way to wish my new Friend Chris a Happy Birthday.

I couldn't decide on the background for this -- and my son said that this blue background looked like the coolness of sunrise -- so I liked the idea of the beginning of the day to say "Wild For you!" The color bars were leftovers stitched and bradded atop a cuttlebug embossed panel with the sizzix Giraffe and Sun added with dimensionals. "Wild For You" is a Michael's $ stamp (another souvenir of Nashville). Background created with a Stampendous texture stamp. I am wild for your comments!

P.S. Hoping this will bring a smile to my friend Paula who collects giraffes -- she's just out of surgery and needs encouragement!

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Blog presents Challenge # 28 Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Pamela's challenge is freedom to choose the project but with one caveat: actively create this project as an act of worship to God. The verse I have used for this card is from Stampin' Up: "We pause to thank the Lord above for family and friends who give us love! " The cross is a reminder of the ultimate Love of God. Time Flies

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge presents a new scripture and challenge every Sunday. A visit to their blog is a good way to start a new week. This week's scripture: Esther 4:14 “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" and as a challenge: Make a card or project using a time piece or in some way denoting time or the passage of time. This timepiece reminds me of my grandmother's pocket watch which was given to her by her husband as a wedding gift. Throughout her life, she carried it with her always -- and she celebrated 50 years of marriage. As her namesake, I was given the honor to continue the tradition. I now have her treasured pocket watch and this year, I will celebrate 50 years of marriage! It's all about time. " We listen, we laugh, we sigh, time flies by . . ." -- and so we must cherish each day! I am a real promoter of recycling and/or repurposing, and Kelly's challenge this week was "Go Green" and so I would like to share this project there too! When you go visit, be sure to see the tutorial on paper quilting. Yet another way to use bits and pieces! Gotta go -- time is flying!

Details: The watch was made from a soda can which I hand embossed -- added to that are layers of cuttlebug embossed metallic cardstock. The winder on the watch is a craft punch shell, gears and flourish corner are Ellison and Sizzlets - stamp by Stampendous.

It's all about "Clean 'n Simple" that's what the Mo' challenge hostess, Dawn says -- Use white or cream cardstock, your image from Mo's Digital Pencil, and one ribbon.. it's that simple... and, no additional layers! Simple? So says she! The biggest trick for me was printing the image directly on the card! This darling Mo image is yet another wonderful freebie. This little guy is called "Sinatra" and is definitely having a "ball" with the yarn. The card face was scored both ways and pierced to add some dimension; Sinatra was colored with prismacolor markers and OMS. I left the yarn dangling off the page to take the picture. -- I think I'll continue it on inside just for fun. I loved this effect so much here's Sinatra's friend.
Mo's Digital Pencil has the most delightful images and be sure to visit the challenge to see some of them in creations by the DT. May your day be as delightful as Sinatra's.

Spring is definitely coming and this DCWV paper worked perfectly for these little HM guys & gals to frolic on. Special details by Sizzix, Art Institute Glitter, and a Making Impression butterfly punch (souvenir of Puyallup, WA). My card was inspired by a blogging friend, Michelle, who showed me how to create this tri-fold accordian card in a video tutorial -- that aspires to make an element of surprise at each unfolding. God is Love

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge verse: I John 4: 10 "This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins." Challenge: make a card or project for someone you love letting them know how much God loves them.
I was in the laundry room pondering this challenge and looking at my "stamp wall" -- yup, I have a wall of stamps (I'm so lucky)! The phrase "God is Love" from Posh Impressions called to me and as I was putting in a load of whites in the washing machine, I had the bleach out and it called to me. There is a reason to have your stamp studio in the laundry room! Brown cardstock touched with bleach, Sizzix die cuts, flower craft punches, unmounted rose stamp (unknown), charm from Impress (souvenir from Seattle), layers and tole on DP from stash. Lookin' for Clues

Mo's Digital Challenge: "It's all about colors...so make sure you use pink, white, red and include a heart. . . ." A Mo's freebie called "Lookin' for Clues" inspired me for this challenge. I made this charmingly serious little Sherlock dimensional -- both in layers and in tole work. He was following a trail made by a four footed creature and I covered the tracks with little hearts but you can still see one sneaky little paw print. All assembled on a side-step card. Here's a Martha quickie that offers a chance to use up those little scraps you can't bear to part with. Any little craft punch will do --- but since today is Valentine's Day, I chose hearts. Grid the focal panel by placing small dimensionals in rows and columns, add your feature punch, a bow, and send it in the mail to your favorite valentine.

Boxed in -- in the Laundry Room

Today while in the laundry room between loads, I decided to try a little box project from Andrea Walford. You can find it here -- thanks to my being directed there by Sue's Stamping Stuff. Four hours later, my laundry isn't done and my studio is a mess. But I have had so much fun putting these little boxes together. From Andrea's basic pattern, I've added a box lining and a little tab to help open the box for that one lucious piece of chocolate I'm putting inside for my friends. My idea is that I buy a big box of chocolates and give them out one at a time in these little boxes -- and maybe there will still be some chocolate left in the big box for ME! (Andrea's instructions use 5x7 cardstock so that the box will hold two truffles -- these are made with 4x7)

But the funniest part of this project is when I made a list of the supplies and tools I used.

Love is in the Air

On Sunday, a Stamping' Sisters in Christ Challenge design team member Randi (go visit her blog -- she is such an inspiration) wrote in her challenge this week: "We are just a week away from Valentine's Day and I have been busy making cards for friends and family, as I know you are, too. Thinking about all the love that is in the air I was drawn to the scripture that shows us how God views the earthly love between a man and a woman." Her Scripture choice: Mark 10: 7-9 "7. 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8. and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. 9. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." (NASB) Her challenge: one creation incorporating two kinds of the same items - such as 2 different colors of cardstock, 2 different pieces of patterned paper, etc. A major task but here is my "Love is in the Air" as a 5x7 step ladder card -- template from Penny Wessenauer.Two different poodles, flowers, hearts, cardstocks, cuttlebug embossing folders, ink pads, and two different "Eiffel's" -- if you count the shadow -- all to become "one" love.

I am also sharing this with the Rainbow Lady's Challenge for "Seasons" -- I choose Spring!

What a great prize to be had at Mo's Digital Challenge blog. One lucky person will receive a Mo's Digital image for participating in this week's challenge. Go on over and take a look at the beautiful DT creations and join in. The challenge is "wood" or "would you?" Would you guess which I have portrayed? There is a wooden sign hanging atop the wreathe in testament of love -- so there is wood and "would you be mine." I appreciate so much having this Mo freebie to layer and tole. The wreathe has been "roughed" up a bit by slicing it with a craft knife and adding bits of raffia which also binds the wreathe together.

The "love birds" have been colored my favorite color (blue) with prismacolor pencils and OMS. You & Me? -- Your comments mean a lot to me!

Here is My Heart

Here is my Heart to express my Love in a Valentine to my DH. I have always been especially in love with vintage greeting cards -- so it was easy for me to take on the challenge over at Peggy Loves Vintage blog spot. Peggy offers this delightful vintage heart image for her challenge. Another challenge blogspot where I like to play is C.R.A.F.T. -- and this week's challenge is Love/Valentine. For my heart, I used the image to frame a Hampton Arts stamp by resizing the image and printing four copies. From these, I created four layers by removing more of the details with each layer --the last layer is just the gold frame. The layers were embossed and joined together with glue/ dimensionals.

Other Stuff I used: Hampton Arts Stamp; Marvy heart punch, Fiskars border punch, Diamond Glaze, Art Institute Glitter,
machine stitching (with and without thread) and a ribbon rose for detailing.

And there you have "my heart".

Got your attention? Stamping Sister's in Christ offer this week's scripture for contemplation: Matthew 18:4 "Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." And, for the challenge: make a card or project with an image of a child or childlike things on it (such as toys or a saying about children), but not a baby card. This week's prize is three ever so darling images from Mo's Digitals -- so how could I not join in the fun? The image I used for my shopping pad was a Mo's freebie to show how adorable these images are (colored with prismacolor pencils and OMS)! I didn't fancy this project up with a lot of embellies because Louis and Bronte are all about eating cookies and not frills. The notepad holder is a great creation by Nichole Heady at www.papertreyink.com -- you can find it here. I changed the dimensions and used 12X12 DCWV card stock to accommodate the size of my notepad. For the C.R.A.F.T challenge asking for creations using paper piecing, these little sheep were delighted to oblige by sporting new coats of paper piecing. Super easy and a delight to make. Sizzlets lamb die, cardstock layers ending with a daisy print background and handwritten edging "...count your blessings instead of sheep."

Don't forget to count your blessings and name them one by one!

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge is to make a project about the home to reference "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15. Additional challenges for me were to use a mix of pattern paper, sewing, and stamping on patterns after reading an article by one of my favorite designers Julia Stainton. Julia's great article is over at Ellen Hutson's. This oversized easel card (8 1/2 x 5 1/2) has as the "stopper" a cuttlebug textured throw rug which would not be complete without a little kitty and a ball of yarn. I have been fussing with this project for several days and while rummaging around in my studio I was delighted to discover a stamp I didn't know I had: Joshua 24:15 in the frame. Ta Dah! -- I was then inspired! So I cast aside all the ribbons and embellies I had been working with in favor of making just a comfortable little home spot. Some of the details: the pillows and kitty are on dimensionals, the frame has diamond glaze for the glass in the frame, and the sofa doiley is touched with glitter. Speaking of inspiration, I encourage you to visit the challenge spot to view all the creativity from the design team members -- Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge. And, speaking of kitties, when I went outside to photograph this card -- look who was on the roof supervising:

Pear - fect Sense

To me, it makes pear-fect sense to recycle and what could be a more beautiful recycle material than commercial (not handmade -- no never!) greeting cards. After the Holidays run those cards through your shredder to create a new life for all that color, gold and sparklies. I made the background with haphazard stamping (maker unknown) and ran it through a corrugator. You can see a previous post a couple of cards down for more information. I will add this to a challenge post for the rainbow lady -- and since I am aka, "theneon" (short for the neon rainbow) I couldn't resist her recycle challenge. Go visit the rainbow lady here.

Card Trick No. 9 - Another Royal Flush to wish a friend a Royal Birthday. A Cuttlebug embossed background sets off the Royal Flush playing cards -- a queen cut out from another card reigns supreme and shows where her heart is. The cards are lightly sponged with Memories Red Barn.; fern leaf punch - Emaginations; little green flowers, stash, and "Make it a Royal" is by my hand. Hope you receive the Royal treatment today.

Cuppa

I love recycling -- and here's one of my favorites for this time of year when it is time to put away all that Christmas stuff. Don't discard those beautiful "commercial" greeting cards when you can make a beautiful cuppa like this! Please note that this project is NOT intended for handmades! Run the cards through a shredder (gasp) for uniform strips. Remove the liner from one side of a piece of carpet tape and apply the strips in a pleasing pattern. When you have a piece large enough, remove the other liner to expose the second adhesive side and apply to a piece of card stock -- and then cut out a cup shape. The steam is random cuts from cardstock and the Embossing Arts flower has crystal laquer and was applied with a pop dot. This is a great project for traveling -- very few supplies are needed -- just a baggie of shredded cards, scissors and carpet tape. I had many an entertaining evening in my hotel room when I was working out of town with just these few items. Come on back -- there are more ideas to share!

Stampin' Sisters in Christ's challenge is to make a New Year's card inspired by Psalm 25:4-5 "Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior and my hope is in you all day long." This Judi-Kins stamp has been a favorite of mine for a very long time though I've never inked it -- so I was glad it offered an opportunity to start the new year right. My New Year's resolution is to let no stamp go uninked! The design team over at SSCC has done their awesome best for this challenge -- go take a look. And while you are surfing around -- please visit the Cupcake Craft Challenge to see some great work there for the challenge "A Time for Celebration" where I've also submitted this card. Update: I just reviewed the instructions -- she used rubber gloves!

The Stampin' Sisters in Christ DT has done another awesome job with the scripture:2 Chronicles 7:14 --"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (NIV)

and the challenge to make a card to let someone know you are praying for them. I am so glad for this challenge to remind me that I have a special Sister in Christ who needs comfort and prayer and now I have a card to surprise her with. The first photo has a little ray of sunshine so I took a second one but then realized that the sunshine is God's blessing so I've posted both.

Gingerbread Family

I'm wishing a very special family a Merry Christmas and to help with those wishes, I created a larger version of my coffee cozy recycle project to create a "carrier" for a Cashier's Check in an "undisclosed" amount (since my recipient might visit here). My dh and I selected this lovely family of four because they need a little extra help this Christmas. Inside is the "surprise" and a note telling them how my dh and I know what it is like to have "skinny" times and because the Lord has blessed us in so many ways, we are grateful to be in a position to pass on some blessing to others.

Someone Special

For Someone Special

Visit Just Magnolia's blog and enjoy the DT's beautiful creations for the challenge to make a card for someone special -- now that is an easy one! My Someone Special is actually two someone specials: This month, my son, Dain, is receiving his Master of Fine Arts in Painting; and his girlfriend is receiving her cap and pin for nursing. I am christening my very first Magnolia purchases for this event by making a celebration card for each of them. In Sherry's honor, the little Student Tilda now has a red cross for her hat. The bubbly has little gems mounted on a thin sliver of acetate behind the glass and inside for that someone special, I've stamped and colored a rose and added "It's Your Special Day." A Special Day indeed for someone very special.

It's Beginning to Look....

Penny Black has provided a wonderful sketch by Beth for this week's challenge (#77). Visit this blog, and you will be rewarded with some beautiful DT creations. I enjoyed this sketch so much and became so engrossed with stamping all the little squares, I forgot that it was supposed to have a Penny Black image.

The benefits of this forgetfulness, is that I now have two cards using this same great sketch! You may recognize this Penny Black image as "Moo Birthday" -- a delightful stamp that brings a smile to my face for several reasons: it was given to me by my sweet AZSIS and because I was raised on a farm and used to help herd and milk the cows. I have altered this "...to look like Christmas" by using just two cows, and by cutting out and mounting each of the gifts on a thin strip of acetate to suspend them above the cows. Components are raised with pop dots, and brightened here and there with Diamond Glaze. Here is a previous post using this image (also altered) . I could use this image until the cows come home. (My son is in the other room so he didn't "hear" me say this.)

The Gift

Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge: create something that has a gift somewhere on it -- inspired by the following verse: “After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11. I am showing this off as a Christmas Gift for the C.R.A.F.T. challenge too! -- and for more challenge fun, go look at the Verve blog for a link to instructions for this mini-pizza box.

Now who doesn't like pizza? And, who doesn't like a little something delivered in a pizza box? So, not only is there a gift on the outside, inside are tiny little candy canes. I think my son, Dain, however, would prefer a gift card inside the mini-pizza box, and a real life-sized pizza in a real pizza box!

Would anyone think that one piece of 12x12 paper could wish you joy? That's the House Mouse challenge. Go see for yourself -- there you will enjoy the DT contributions and can find a tutorial for this double pocket bag. It was a delight to make and I am so glad that House Mouse has set me to work on it. I purposely kept the coloring light because I wanted to create a delicate look to match the DCWV paper. My granddaughter will find this dangling from a Christmas tree branch so I had to be sure to make it cute and girly by adding the pink ribbon and the pink tissue paper stamped with mice footprints. Thus qualifying it also for the Cute and Girly challenge blog spot. And I am really branching out this time and offering this one up to C.R.A.F.T Challenge too -- both of these I would not have discovered had it not been for my blogging friend Lorraine. What will be placed inside these little gift pockets remains a mystery -- but I will be wishing her Joy. And I wish you Joy too as you make some of these for yourself.

Precious Moments

Precious moments are ones such as these as we share with our friends and families -- whether our table is laden with food, or it is just a bowl of soup (and in this case you can bet it isn't turkey soup!) May everyone be reminded this Holiday to give thanks. I give thanks to God for all things and especially for my family and friends -- and that is why I stamped "Thanks be for Thee" and will be hand delivering this to my daughter and her family on Thanksgiving Day. I am presenting this here for a challenge from Stampin' Sisters In Christ and I encourage you to visit there and view the gorgeous work created by the DT. High Handed

Card Trick No. 8. And indeed this is a trick because if you ask anyone who plays cards, they will tell you that this is a Royal Flush which is the highest hand you can get – and, of course, it is also the hardest one to get. That would indicate that this card is a real treasure and would indeed be a Royal greeting. I miniaturized the cards, painted them with liquid laminate and gave them a light Art Institute Glitter sprinkle. The pale blue Cuttlebugged background edged with gold is to simulate the design on the back of the cards and is dusted with chalk to bring out the interesting surface texture. The gold tassel was yet another trick as the gold cord was running rampant like a bad hair day until I finally got it to succumb with a little white glue blended into the fringe. The playing cards are foam mounted at the top and glued at the bottom to seem as though they are being held. The crown is from a foam mounted stamp set (unknown).
