Aunt Dot's Flower Pot

My Aunt Dot is having a birthday. And what a birthday! She will be 90 years old this week and her children are hosting an open house in her honor this Saturday.

My family moved away from our home state while I was still in school, but one of my favorite early memories of Aunt Dot is when we visited her and were preparing to leave, she would ask us to wait while she quickly cut flowers from her garden for us to take along. I have always remembered this as a very special gesture which not only was her way of saying thanks for our visit, but was also a display of generosity and her good wishes for us to leave on a happy note.

This memory of Aunt Dot's flowers was the inspiration for this flower pot card. I created it from a standard size piece of card stock folded to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and then cut out in the shape of the pot and bouquet. I had so much fun "cutting the flowers" to create the bouquet, that this became quite a dimensional piece. Happily, though, I have traveled to attend this celebration so that I will be able to hand deliver the card and will enjoy visiting with Aunt Dot and other relatives I have not seen in over ten years.

Happy Birthday, Aunt Dot!

Oh wow what a fantastic creation that is obviously full of not only flowers but love. I am in awe of crafters like you who can turn their hands to create such a beautiful card. Enjoy your time with your Aunt and I hope that she will enjoy many years yet of receiving your lovely creations.

Oh Martha Kay, what a lovely card and an even nicer story. Your flower pot turned out so special.
Love the bright colors of all the flowers you filled your pot with and the cuddlebug folder you used on the pot. Perfect card for your Aunt. Enjoy your visit and your time with your family.

This is a lovely card, I love the way that you have followed the cards flower shapes inside the card too.

Your story about your Aunt brought a smile to my face, as I remembered that it was my Aunt that gave me my first bunch of flowers - they were Gladioli. Which brings me to say, that I am very glad you came to see my blog, so that I remembered my Aunt who passed away very many years ago.

Thanks for the memories.

This is awesome! I love cards that are shaped. I don't have the knack myself, so I always enjoy others creations. Fabulous use of colors on the flowers. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a nice comment! Happy Friday, michelle
